With three Open Championship courses within a twenty minute drive of the hotel car park and another couple of dozen of quality links and parkland courses to choose from within that radius, Ayr is a perfect base for a golfing vacation to Ayrshire.
Turnberry and Royal Troon still play host to the Open Championship - with the event returning to Troon again in 2016 - and Prestwick hosted the very first championship way back in 1860. Tee times can be reserved at all three of these championship links and they will each contribute to provide a most memorable golf vacation on Scotland's West Coast.
As well as the three "major" courses Ayrshire is additionally blessed with a superb selection of welcoming links courses running from West Kilbride in the north down to the Kintyre at Turnberry in the south. Golf South Ayrshire operates eight courses and a few of them are of the highest standard and are all available to pay and play at really good value rates. The pick of these council managed golf courses would undoubtedly be the two Troon courses of Lochgreen and Darley and the wonderful James Braid designed Belleisle which is only a few minutes from the Fairfield Hotel just on the outskirts of Ayr.
